Can I use a handheld metal detector as a MEDISCAN substitute?

With regard to scanning medical waste, we have had customers try it in conjunction with other deeper penetrating scanning devices such as the MEDISCAN medical loss prevention scanner. However we wouldn't recommend using it as a substitute all together. Considering the fact fact that medical waste/laundry/trash bags can average several feet in diameter, a handheld metal detector (HHMD) would only penetrate the outer shell of the scan target by a few inches, leaving the core of the bags untouched.
